Dog teeth

Pet parents often forget that their four-legged friends are susceptible to the same dental issues as us, including bad breath, infection, tooth loss, and life-threatening diseases.

In fact, over 70% of dogs and cats show signs of dental disease by the time they're three-years-old.

The good news? It's entirely preventable.

During your pet’s annual exam, we'll teach you how to prevent periodontal disease and check for signs of gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and tartar which are often precursors to more severe disease.

Signs of dental disease that you may notice at home include:

  • Bad breath
  • Broken/discolored teeth
  • Changes in eating behavior
  • Rubbing/pawing at the face
  • Facial swelling
  • Drooling
  • Bleeding from the mouth
  • Difficulty opening/closing mouth
  • Change in demeanor or temperament

Consequences of untreated dental disease include:

  • Pain
  • Destruction of bone
  • Tooth loss
  • Systemic disease which can affect the heart, liver, and kidneys

We offer full-service dental care including digital dental x-ray, professional scaling and polishing, and tooth extractions. Extractions are only performed on teeth that are irreversibly damaged. It's better to remove those types of teeth because they act as chronic passageways for infection until they are properly addressed.

The earlier you start your pet on a dental hygiene protocol, the less likely they will need extreme dental procedures in the future, so prevention is key.

Having said that, we're here to protect your pet's pearly whites all year round. Any time is a perfect time to start a new dental hygiene routine.
